If you deliberately made your children sick for any reason, you would deserve to go to jail… in the mind of any decent and normal person, saved or unsaved. If I knew you were doing that to your children, I would report you myself. It is absolutely evil to say that God would do that to the same people who He so loved that while they were still living purposefully in sin, gave all He could to seek and save. That word “save” is sozo, which is full redemption: forgiveness of sins, healing, and wholeness—all together. It’s: “God forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases” Psa 103:3. Jesus was clearly persecuted because He equated forgiveness of sins and healing since the religious people of His day tried to separate them as well.
I know believers who don’t experience the effects of forgiveness of sins because they don’t believe that they are forgiven when they ask. Yet, they believe they will go to heaven when they die because they prayed one pray, one time, a long time ago. Many believers live in condemnation and guilt because they don’t actually believe that God will give them what they ask for, what He tells them to ask for.
Jesus said, if you, being evil know how to do good to your children, how much more will your heavenly father give good gifts to you. You can’t earn gifts! But so many of us try to earn it still. God is infinitely more good than we are. He does allow us to make choices that have grave consequences.
But to say that God will give you a sickness or disease to bring you to repentance, to teach you a lesson, or to keep you from getting prideful is not only ascribing evil to God, but it is in direct offense to the cross of Christ. Jesus bore our sins, sickness, disease, pain, and even death in our place, and now all things pertaining to life and Godliness are ours by faith. The bible clearly says that the love of God compelled Him to send His son in our place and that it’s the kindness of God that leads man to repentance.
The idea that God would make people ill to lead them to repentance or teach them something is in direct opposition to who He is; it opposes His very nature. He is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord God our Healer. He cannot NOT be that. Sin is being or acting in opposition to God’s character. And God cannot be in opposition to Himself.
There are passages in the Bible that have been taught horribly wrong, leading many of us into completely irrational ideas about God and healing. But Jesus alone clearly, fully, and consistently revealed God to man. Jesus never made anyone sick. He never told anyone that God wouldn’t heal them until they came to repentance. He never told anyone it wasn’t their time. In fact, He never failed to heal anyone who came to Him for healing.
If our beliefs about God cannot be seen in the life of Christ, they are wrong. Jesus alone is the Word accurately and fully made evident to us.
“He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power…” (Hebrews 1:3 AMP)
