Today, many people will go to a church where they will hear a well-crafted, three-point, self-help monologue. There are many others who will hear a message that demands agreement to secondary doctrines that are not clear in the bible. Yet, the bible states, “in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God… I have fully preached the gospel of Christ” (Romans 15:19 NKJV).
Like the other early apostles, Paul believed that the demonstration of the power of God was an essential component of the declaration of the Gospel of Christ. Why? Because it proves the good news, it’s what Jesus taught from the beginning, and it’s what Jesus demonstrated throughout His ministry.
Why would anyone think that they could improve on Christ, make it more generally or widely acceptable, or accomplish the work of God without the demonstration of the power of God? Neither marketing, education, or political-correctness will ever be able to substitute the power of God or mitigate the offense of the full gospel. If the message doesn’t allow for the demonstration of the power of God, it’s simply not enough.
Preach the good news, expect God to move, and allow room for it to happen!
